The cases we take from Lake Clarke Shores

Every claim below starts the same way: a free call with Paul, not an intake script. Open any one to see how it works in Florida.

Truck accidents in Lake Clarke Shores

Box trucks and tractor-trailers bring federal safety rules, driver logs and black-box data into the case. That evidence gets overwritten, so the letter demanding it goes out early.

What the county’s own crash data says about Lake Clarke Shores roads

Palm Beach County publishes the list of streets that produce its worst crashes. One road inside Lake Clarke Shores is on it, and it is the road everybody uses to leave town.

The Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency maintains a High Injury Network: the roadway segments carrying the heaviest concentration of fatal and serious injury crashes in the county. Its 2025 Vision Zero Action Plan puts that network at 130 corridors covering 276 miles and reports that 38 percent of fatal crashes and 36 percent of serious injury crashes happen on 4 percent of the county’s streets. Ninety-five percent of the network is posted at 35 miles per hour or higher. Just over half of that network is state road rather than city street.

The agency publishes that network as mapped data, scored four separate ways — all crashes, pedestrian crashes, bicycle crashes, and crashes in the dark or on unlit roadway. A road that qualifies on all four is the worst case the county measures. These are the Lake Clarke Shores streets on the 2025 network, with what the data flags and who is responsible for the pavement.

Forest Hill BoulevardThe one corridor inside the town on the network, and it is flagged on every measure the county scores. Four to six lanes, posted 35, state road under FDOT.
Dixie HighwayJust east, in Lake Worth Beach. Flagged on every measure, and separately for crashes in the dark.
Lake Worth RoadJust south. Flagged on every measure, and named in the plan among the county streets with the most pedestrian and bicyclist deaths.
Military TrailJust west, in Greenacres. Flagged on every measure, and also named in the plan among the streets with the most pedestrian and bicyclist deaths.
Forest Hill Boulevard, continuingWest into Greenacres and east into West Palm Beach, flagged on every measure along both stretches and for crashes in the dark through Greenacres.

Lake Clarke Shores is about a square mile of residential streets wrapped around the canals, and almost nothing on the county’s high-injury network is inside it. Forest Hill Boulevard is the exception, and it is the exception that matters: four to six lanes at a posted 35, flagged on every measure the county scores, and the road that carries essentially everyone in and out of the town.

The practical consequence is that a serious crash involving a Lake Clarke Shores resident usually happens on a road the town does not control. Forest Hill Boulevard belongs to FDOT. Dixie Highway belongs to FDOT. Lake Worth Road belongs to FDOT. Military Trail is county and state. The town’s own streets are 25 mile per hour residential lanes, and they are not where the injury claims come from.

The most common fatal and serious injury crashes on the network are angle, left turn and rear end collisions, and the left-turn problem is the one Forest Hill Boulevard produces: turning across four to six lanes of through traffic at 35, out of a side street with a short sight line.

Angle and left-turn crashes are the ones insurers fight, because who had the right of way is rarely settled by the damage alone. That is where Florida Statute 768.81 does its work: a claimant found more than 50 percent responsible recovers nothing, and below that line the recovery is cut by the share assigned. An adjuster asking about your speed and your line of sight turning onto Forest Hill Boulevard is not making conversation. What the 51 percent bar covers, and what it does not.

Rear-end crashes carry the opposite problem. Fault is usually conceded and the fight moves to the injury: whether a neck or back complaint came from this crash or from something older. That argument is won or lost in the medical records, which is why the 14-day deadline in Florida Statute 627.736(1)(a) ends more claims than any dispute about fault. How Paul handles a Palm Beach County car accident claim.

The Forest Hill Boulevard segments inside the town are flagged on all four of the county’s measures, which includes crashes in the dark. Where lighting, sight lines or signal timing contributed to a crash, the question stops being only about the two drivers — and on Forest Hill Boulevard that question goes to the state.

Getting your Lake Clarke Shores crash report

Lake Clarke Shores runs its own police department, and it investigates its own crashes.

A crash inside the town limits is worked by the Lake Clarke Shores Police Department, at Town Hall, 1701 Barbados Road. The town’s number is (561) 964-1515 and Town Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is a full-service agency: the department describes itself as responsible for all criminal investigations, traffic enforcement and crash investigations, with ten full-time and three part-time sworn officers plus six reserve officers.

One detail here is worth knowing before you give a statement. Lake Clarke Shores police officers are dispatched to every emergency medical call in the town, and their patrol cars carry automated defibrillators and Narcan, because Palm Beach County Fire Rescue provides EMS under contract and takes longer to arrive. In a town this size the first person to write down what your injuries looked like is often a police officer, not a paramedic — and that is the first document in your claim.

The report itself is sold by the state, not by the department. Florida’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles runs the Florida Crash Portal, where a report costs $10 plus a $2 convenience fee on the transaction. Bought online it is available immediately, and the download link has to be used within 48 hours. By mail or in person it can take up to 10 days and requires a signed statement on the state’s Form 94010.

Two rules decide when you can actually get it. Under Florida Statute 316.066(2)(a) a crash report is confidential for 60 days after it is filed. Under s. 316.066(2)(b) that wait does not apply to the people involved in the crash, their attorneys or their insurers, who may have it immediately. The report is available to you long before it is available to the public, and it is worth having early, because the other driver’s insurer is already working from it.

If no officer came out, the obligation shifts to you. Florida Statute 316.066(1)(e) requires the driver to file a written report within 10 days where the crash involved injury, death, or a vehicle so damaged it had to be towed, and no officer investigated at the scene. A crash with no report at all is the hardest kind of claim to prove six months later. The order of operations after a Florida crash, and every deadline that can end a claim, with the statute for each.

Which trauma center, which courthouse, and who maintains the road

Three practical facts about a Lake Clarke Shores claim that are easier to establish now than six months from now.

The hospital. Florida has verified only two Level I trauma centers in Palm Beach County — Delray Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center — on the Department of Health’s trauma center list updated July 23, 2026. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue splits them geographically: St. Mary’s covers traumatic injuries north of Southern Boulevard, Delray Medical Center covers the south. Lake Clarke Shores sits south of that line, so a serious trauma out of the town is normally taken to Delray Medical Center. That matters to the claim because the trauma record is the spine of it: the imaging, the admission note and the discharge summary are what an adjuster and later a jury read. If you went by ambulance, the 14-day treatment deadline took care of itself. The claims that die on that deadline belong to people who declined transport, felt worse on day three, and waited. Pain that starts days after a crash, and the order coverage pays your medical bills in.

The road. Who owns the pavement decides who can be sued if the pavement helped cause the crash. Forest Hill Boulevard is a state road under FDOT, and so are Dixie Highway and Lake Worth Road just outside the town. Military Trail is partly county and partly state. A road claim arising from any of them is a claim against a government, not against a contractor. A claim against any of them runs through Florida Statute 768.28, and the rules there are unforgiving: the claim must be presented in writing within three years, recovery is capped at $200,000 per person and $300,000 per incident unless the Legislature passes a claim bill, and the agency has six months to respond before silence counts as a denial. One wrinkle that is easy to get wrong — a claim against a city or a county goes to that government only, while a claim involving a state road also has to be presented to the Department of Financial Services. Three years sounds generous until you put it beside the two-year deadline for the underlying injury suit. Every deadline that can end a Florida injury claim, with the statute for each.

The courthouse. Lake Clarke Shores is in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. Under Florida Statute 34.01(1)(c)3, county court handles actions filed on or after January 1, 2023 where the amount in controversy is $50,000 or less; anything above that is a circuit court case. Circuit civil sits at the Main Judicial Complex, 205 North Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach — downtown, where Paul’s office is. Lake Clarke Shores borders West Palm Beach, so the main complex is also the nearest courthouse; the branches sit in Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach and Belle Glade. Most claims settle and never see a courtroom, but the venue is why a Lake Clarke Shores case is a West Palm Beach case, and why having the attorney in that courthouse’s own city is not a small thing. What Paul Shalhoub handles across Palm Beach County, and the trial background behind it.

Why Lake Clarke Shores clients call Paul Shalhoub

Paul spent the first part of his career on the other side, defending insurance carriers. He knows how a claim is valued internally, which adjuster decisions are discretionary, and what a file needs to look like before a carrier moves.

He is a Palm Beach County lawyer who has also served his own town: three terms on the Lake Clarke Shores town council from 2017, two years as Vice Mayor, and mayor in 2022 and 2023, plus board service across the county. Lake Clarke Shores is not a map pin to this firm.

Common questions

Do I have to come to the office in West Palm Beach?

How long do I have to file an injury claim in Florida?

Two years from the date of the injury for most negligence claims under Florida Statute 95.11. Some claims are shorter, and claims against a government body require written notice first.

What does it cost to hire a lawyer?

Nothing. The consultation is free and the fee is contingent. We advance case costs, and you owe no attorney’s fees or reimbursement of those costs unless we recover compensation for you.

Will Paul handle my case personally?

Yes. This is a single-attorney practice by design. The lawyer you meet is the lawyer who negotiates and, if it comes to it, tries your case.
